Abstract
The article focuses on the adaptation of the Reading Landscapes & Writing Nature teacher workshops, a collaboration between the National Writing Project (NWP) and the National Park Service (NPS), which traditionally offered place-based professional development at Weir Farm National Historical Park. In response to the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, the program shifted to a virtual format using multimodal digital tools such as Padlet and 360 photospheres to maintain engagement with environmental and ecological literacies while expanding access nationwide. The workshops integrated critical place-based pedagogies and diverse storytelling, including indigenous and Black perspectives, to address issues of power, access, and environmental justice. This transition demonstrated that place-based education can be effectively reimagined in digital spaces, fostering community, wellness, and broader inclusion despite the absence of in-person experiences.
