Abstract

The article discusses the publication of a comprehensive English translation of Ikio Sato's Monograph of Japanese tailed amphibians, which was originally published in Japanese two years before the author's death in the Hiroshima bombing in 1945. The translation provides access to Sato's first-hand accounts of salamander taxonomy, ecology, reproductive biology, geographic distribution, and natural history. The book also includes a new foreword and introduction that contextualize Sato's work and provide up-to-date information on East Asian salamanders. The article highlights the book's value for amphibian biologists and its broader geographic and taxonomic scope. [Extracted from the article]
