Abstract

The PBS documentary *Atomic People* focuses on survivors of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August 1945, sharing their firsthand experiences of the immediate devastation and long-term aftermath. Survivors, many of whom were children at the time, describe the intense light, destruction, and horrific injuries caused by the bombs, as well as the severe hardships they faced afterward, including food scarcity and lasting health effects linked to radiation exposure. The film highlights ongoing efforts for compensation and nuclear disarmament, concluding with a survivor’s warning about the potential for future nuclear conflict. The documentary aims to preserve these testimonies to educate and prevent repetition of such tragedies.
