Abstract

The article focuses on research revealing a deep ancient musical connection between the Rigveda, a sacred Hindu scripture dating from 1500–1200 BCE, and a 1400 BCE hymn to the Near Eastern goddess Nikkal found in Ugarit. Analysis shows that two primary rhythmic cadences from Nikkal's hymn are also the most frequent in the Rigveda, with a probability of such a match occurring by chance being less than one in a million. This suggests that music served as a cultural bridge linking the Indian subcontinent and the Near East thousands of years ago. The study further traces these rhythmic patterns through later Western poetry and even into modern anthems, illustrating music's enduring role in uniting diverse cultures across continents and millennia.
