Abstract

The article "Knowledge is a river and education is like a stairway: An eye movement study on how L2 speakers process metaphors and similes" explores how native Finnish speakers process written English metaphors and similes using eye-tracking technology. The study found that readers were more likely to regress within metaphors than within similes, suggesting that processing metaphors requires more effort. The familiarity of a metaphor and L2 English proficiency were found to influence this effect. The research provides insights into figurative language processing among L2 speakers and contributes to existing theories in the field. [Extracted from the article]
