Abstract

This article reviews an edited volume that examines the cultural memory of war and its impact on contemporary societies worldwide. The book features interdisciplinary contributions analyzing how past wars are remembered, misremembered, or forgotten through films, museums, literature, and media, incorporating diverse perspectives including postcolonial and subaltern voices. It highlights the politicization of war commemoration, exemplified by Vladimir Putin’s distorted use of World War II history to justify Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The volume offers valuable insights into the role of war remembrance in shaping collective identities and ongoing cultural and political conflicts, making it a significant resource for research in memory, military, and security studies.
