Abstract
This article explores the potential benefits and risks of using generative AI in marketing. It highlights four areas where generative AI can be advantageous for marketers, including customization, creativity, connectivity, and cost of cognition. The article provides examples of companies that have successfully utilized generative AI in their marketing campaigns. However, it also acknowledges the risks associated with this technology, such as confabulation, consumer reactance, copyright issues, and cybersecurity. The author suggests ways to mitigate these risks and offers a four-step framework for marketers to navigate the use of generative AI effectively. The article emphasizes the importance of considering the human side of transformation and ensuring that marketing teams have the necessary skills.
