A Comparison between Volume-Controlled Ventilation versus Pressure Controlled-Volume Guaranteed in Prone Position.

Abstract

The article focuses on three clinical studies related to patient management in critical care and anesthesia. The first study evaluates the use of the inferior vena cava (IVC) collapsibility index, measured by ultrasound, as a non-invasive predictor of intravascular volume status in ischemic heart patients, finding a strong inverse correlation with central venous pressure (CVP) and high diagnostic accuracy. The second study compares volume-controlled ventilation (VCV) and pressure-controlled volume-guaranteed ventilation (PCV-VG) in patients undergoing elective spine surgery in the prone position, concluding that PCV-VG offers lower peak airway pressures and improved dynamic lung compliance without significant differences in hemodynamics or oxygenation. The third study assesses postoperative pulmonary function in patients recently recovered from mild to moderate COVID-19 infection, emphasizing the importance of timing surgery to minimize respiratory complications.
