Abstract
The essay also addresses the implications of Fenstad's understanding of the development of human knowledge for the training of future scientists. By contrast, in Part 2, Fenstad provides more detailed and technical discussions of the mathematical modeling of human language and cognition, and defends a cultural account of mathematics. Like the fourth essay, the primary purpose of this essay is to demonstrate the importance of mathematical modeling to the human sciences, ensuring that no one can take Fenstad's reflections on human knowledge to apply only to the natural and social sciences. While I could devote significantly more space to exploring Fenstad's overall project, instead, I will proceed by outlining the content of each essay in the collection[1] and providing a sense of how it relates to Fenstad's overall project.
