Abstract
The article focuses on recent theoretical developments in understanding aesthetic value, distinguishing it from artistic value by noting that aesthetic value applies not only to art but also to nature, design, and intellectual material. It highlights three central questions in the field: how to demarcate aesthetic values, the normativity of aesthetic judgments (why aesthetic facts provide reasons for action), and what makes aesthetic values good. The social network theory is presented as a prominent approach emphasizing normativity within social practices organized around shared vocabularies of aesthetic goods, suggesting that aesthetic values guide agents to act well collectively. This theory encourages research into the diverse cultural benefits of participating in aesthetic communities, which may include meaning, identity formation, and opportunities for value exploration, while recognizing that these benefits vary across cultures and do not solely define aesthetic value.
