Abstract
The article focuses on two clinical studies conducted at Ain Shams University Hospital related to anesthesia and postoperative analgesia. The first study, a randomized controlled double-blinded trial, compared ketamine-based versus fentanyl-based induction of anesthesia in patients with abdominal sepsis, finding that ketamine better maintained intraoperative hemodynamics without affecting ICU length of stay or mortality. The second study evaluated the addition of dexamethasone to bupivacaine in caudal blocks for pediatric patients undergoing orchidopexy, demonstrating that dexamethasone significantly prolonged postoperative analgesia compared to bupivacaine alone. Both studies highlight approaches to optimize anesthesia and pain management in specific patient populations.
