Abstract

The article focuses on the Converge conference held in September 2025 at the Omni La Costa hotel in Carlsbad, California, which combined the American Gem Society's Conclave and the Gemological Institute of America's (GIA) Symposium. Attended by 916 participants from 19 countries, the event featured presentations on pearl testing, sustainability of cultured pearls, colored stone treatments, gem mineral evolution, diamond origin challenges, and advanced gem identification techniques. Highlights included discussions on fluorescence spectroscopy, superdeep diamonds, diamond cut design, and GIA's pearl classification system. The conference also showcased museum collections and emphasized the importance of field gemology for understanding gem sources.
