Abstract
The article focuses on NATO's consideration of reinforcing its ballistic missile defense capabilities in Turkey in response to missile threats from neighboring Iran. NATO has already deployed a missile-defense battery in eastern Turkey to protect an early-warning radar system, specifically a US AN/TPY-2 radar at Kurecik, and is now contemplating sending an additional Patriot missile-defense system to Incirlik Air Base, which hosts NATO and US forces. The potential deployment aims to enhance defense against ballistic missiles, as current PAC-2 interceptor systems at Incirlik are primarily designed for aircraft and cruise missiles and may be ineffective against ballistic threats. Since March 4, NATO's air and missile defense assets in the eastern Mediterranean have intercepted three missiles launched from Iran, highlighting ongoing regional security concerns.
