Abstract

Kolwes emphasizes the linguistic shift of the May 1950 announcement, which notes that all prisoners of war had been repatriated from the Soviet Union and that those who remained were war criminals. In essence, then, the three major eras of Kolwes's work can be summarized as National Socialist, occupation regimes, and East and West German governments. With her book, Ann-Kristin Kolwes provides important new insights into the history of German prisoners of war (POWs) of the Second World War. [Extracted from the article]
