Abstract

The article focuses on the operational history of the USS Boise (CL-47), a Brooklyn-class light cruiser active during World War II. Commissioned in 1938, Boise participated in key naval battles including the Battle of Cape Esperance, where she sustained heavy damage and crew casualties, and later provided gunfire support in Mediterranean and Pacific campaigns such as the invasions of Sicily, the Philippines, and Borneo. After extensive repairs and multiple combat assignments, Boise earned 11 battle stars before being decommissioned in 1946 and sold to the Argentine Navy in 1951. The account highlights the ship’s wartime service, crew experiences, and eventual fate without extending beyond the author’s personal focus on the period when his father served aboard.
