Abstract
Julian Assange, the founder of Wikileaks, has been given another opportunity to appeal his extradition. After years of legal battles, British judges ruled that Assange could bring a full-blown appeal, as his lawyers argued that US guarantees over his first amendment rights were insufficient. If the assurances had been deemed satisfactory, Assange could have been extradited within days. The US has charged Assange with helping Chelsea Manning obtain classified documents, and he faces a maximum penalty of 175 years in prison if found guilty. President Joe Biden has indicated that the government is considering dropping the case, and Assange's lawyer is working with the Australian government to find a resolution.
