Abstract

During the Second World War, the Gurkhas, Nepalese warriors, were deployed to various fronts and played a significant role in the conflict. They fought in the deserts of Libya, the jungles of Southeast Asia, and the mountains of Italy. Despite facing formidable enemies, such as German forces in North Africa and Japanese forces in Burma, the Gurkhas displayed bravery and resilience. They contributed to the eventual victory of the Allies in the North Africa theater and the Italian campaign. The Gurkhas also participated in the battles of Imphal and Kohima in India, where they held important positions against Japanese assaults. Approximately 120,000 Gurkhas served in the war, with 9,000 paying the ultimate price. Their sacrifices highlight the global nature of the conflict and their immeasurable gallantry.
