Abstract

President Vladimir Putin is hosting Russia's 80th anniversary celebrations of the defeat of Nazi Germany in World War II, while the war he initiated in Ukraine continues. Leaders from over 20 countries, including China, Brazil, and Slovakia, will join Putin at the Victory Day parade in Moscow. The Kremlin has attempted to use the shared memory of WWII to justify Russia's invasion of Ukraine, despite international efforts to negotiate a ceasefire and end the conflict. Putin is seeking full control of certain regions in Ukraine and remains committed to his goals, while public support for peace talks in Russia is growing. [Extracted from the article]
