Abstract
The article discusses the introduction of the Victoria Cross during the Crimean War in 1856. One of the first recipients of this prestigious award was Seaman James Gorman, who displayed incredible courage during the Battle of Inkerman. Gorman's Victoria Cross was recently sold at an auction for £320,000 due to its rarity as a Naval version of the medal. After his military service, Gorman relocated to New South Wales and served in the government there. He passed away in 1882 and was highly respected for his actions during his time in the Royal Navy.
