Abstract

This article provides a historical overview of key military and political events, including the Bay of Pigs invasion where US-backed Cuban exiles were defeated, escalating Cold War tensions and pushing Cuba closer to the Soviet Union. It covers the start of the American Civil War with the bombardment of Fort Sumter, the US Doolittle Raid on Japan during World War II, and the dismissal of General Douglas MacArthur by President Truman during the Korean War. The failed Operation Eagle Claw attempted to rescue hostages during the Iran Hostage Crisis, resulting in casualties and political repercussions. Additionally, the article discusses the Finno-Soviet Treaty, which obligated Finland to resist Western attacks to protect Soviet interests in the Arctic, and the privatization of Britain’s Royal Ordnance, a major arms manufacturer.
