Abstract

The article "THE FALL OF SAIGON: 50 YEARS LATER" from History of War discusses the events leading to the fall of Saigon in 1975. Following the withdrawal of American troops, North Vietnam launched a successful multi-pronged assault on South Vietnam, overwhelming the Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN). The NVA's victory led to the capture of Saigon, which was renamed Ho Chi Minh City, marking the end of the Vietnam War. The aftermath saw the NVA seizing military equipment left behind by the ARVN and the establishment of the new Republic of Vietnam in 1976. [Extracted from the article]
