Abstract
The article discusses a letter sent in 1549 during the Western Rebellion, a significant civil crisis in the mid-Tudor period. The letter contains the rebels' demands and has been printed and preserved in manuscript form. The authorship of the letter has long been a mystery, but the article suggests that Sir Peter Carew, a Devon-born gentleman who served in the privy chamber, is the likely author. The article also explores Carew's role in quashing the rebellion and his involvement in distributing government propaganda to discredit the rebels. [Extracted from the article]
