Abstract

The article focuses on the short-lived and controversial "Irish Catholic Brigade," a unit of royalist officers from the former Irish Brigade of France who were recruited into British service during the 1790s to oppose the French Revolution. Topics include the political friction caused by the brigade's formation among both Irish Catholics and the Protestant Ascendancy and the rare survival of military artifacts such as the Dillon's 3rd Regiment flag.
