Abstract

The article focuses on the strategic military campaign led by Lieutenant General Bill Slim to reconquer Burma from Japanese forces in 1945. Slim's 14th Army executed a series of surprise maneuvers, including Operation Extended Capital, which involved deceptive tactics to mislead Japanese commanders about the Allies' true intentions. The campaign culminated in the capture of key locations such as Meiktila and Mandalay, ultimately leading to the liberation of Rangoon. The article also highlights the significant contributions of diverse troops from the British Commonwealth, particularly Indian soldiers, in achieving this victory, as well as the plight of Allied prisoners of war during the conflict.
