Abstract
The article focuses on research examining the differences in mental health diagnoses and suicide risk among U.S. military personnel evacuated for psychiatric conditions from Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) and Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF). Conducted by the University of Texas San Antonio, the study analyzed data from 7,752 service members evacuated between 2001 and 2013, revealing significant differences in demographic factors, military characteristics, and the prevalence of psychiatric conditions between the two operations. Notably, while fewer service members were evacuated for suicidal ideation during OIF, a higher number were evacuated for suicide attempts, suggesting potential influences from deployment stressors and healthcare services. The research highlights the need for further understanding of the psychological impacts of military operations. [Extracted from the article]
