Abstract
This article examines the role of artistic activism, particularly graffiti and muralism, as a form of political action during Chile's October 2019 uprising. It focuses on the work of visual artist Fab Ciraolo, who reinterpreted iconic leftist figures such as Salvador Allende and Victor Jara to create narratives of rebellion that connect collective memory and prefigurative politics—where present actions embody visions of a desired future. The resurgence of muralism draws on Chile's historical tradition of politically engaged public art, notably the Ramona Parra Brigades, and serves as a repertoire of protest that challenges the neoliberal model and state repression. Despite the social movement's cultural impact, constitutional reforms aimed at addressing inequality have failed, leaving many demands unresolved, while the artistic expressions from the uprising remain significant testimonies to ongoing struggles for social justice in Chile.
