Abstract

The article focuses on the Battle of Mukden, a significant conflict during the Russo-Japanese War that took place from February 23 to March 10, 1905. The battle marked a decisive victory for Japan, which had modernized its military and employed effective tactics against the larger but poorly coordinated Russian forces. Despite heavy casualties on both sides—approximately 100,000 Russian and 70,000 Japanese—the battle did not yield the decisive outcome Japan had hoped for, as two-thirds of the Russian Army managed to escape. The aftermath of Mukden contributed to growing unrest in Russia and ultimately led to Japan's emergence as a dominant power in East Asia, solidified by the Treaty of Portsmouth later that year.
