Abstract

The article focuses on the historical significance of Prophetstown, a settlement founded by Shawnee leaders Tecumseh and Tenskwatawa in the early 1800s as a center for Native American unity and resistance. Located in the Indiana Territory, Prophetstown attracted diverse Native peoples and was marked by Tenskwatawa's leadership and advocacy for temperance. The settlement faced challenges, including a confrontation with William Henry Harrison's forces, leading to its destruction in the Battle of Tippecanoe. Today, Prophetstown State Park commemorates this history, featuring archaeological findings and a reconstructed village that reflects the area's Native American heritage, alongside recreational opportunities for visitors.
