Abstract
The article focuses on an attack claimed by the Islamic State group (IS) on March 3rd against a convoy of fuel tankers near the Mali-Niger border. IS's Sahel Province branch reported ambushing the convoy on the Malian side near Labbezanga, killing 12 drivers and destroying seven tankers, which were said to belong to the Niger government. The group also claimed to have killed or wounded around 10 Malian army and Russian Wagner security personnel escorting the convoy in a separate clash near the village of Fafa. Local sources confirmed the attack near Kongo Tchire in Niger's Tillaberi region, reporting seven deaths and total destruction of the tankers destined for Niamey. The convoy was reportedly protected by Malian and Wagner forces until the Niger border, where Nigerien forces took over.
