Abstract

The Battle of Chaeronea in 338 BCE was a pivotal moment in ancient Greek history, resulting in a decisive victory for Macedonia over Athens and Thebes. Led by Philip II, the Macedonian army's innovative tactics, including the phalanx formation, proved highly effective. The battle saw Alexander, then 18 years old, play a significant role in breaking through the elite Theban warriors. The defeat of Athens and Thebes marked the end of Philip's conquest of Greece and set the stage for his son, Alexander the Great, to continue his mission of conquering the Persian Empire.
