Abstract
The article draws parallels between Richard Nixon's economic policies and those of Donald Trump, suggesting that Trump's second term could lead to significant challenges for the U.S. economy similar to those experienced in the 1970s. Nixon's suspension of the dollar's convertibility into gold in 1971 destabilized the global monetary system, resulting in high inflation and low growth, a scenario that Trump’s tariff policies and other economic strategies may replicate. The article highlights concerns about the sustainability of U.S. debt, the potential for inflation, and the weakening dominance of the dollar, particularly as countries like China begin to decouple from it. It concludes by questioning whether the U.S. will face a prolonged economic recovery akin to that following Nixon's presidency. [Extracted from the article]
