Abstract

The article discusses the bombing of the Canadian troopship Empress of Asia during World War II off the coast of Singapore. The ship was attacked by Japanese bombers, causing a fire to break out and engulf the vessel. Many crew members and troops were able to find refuge away from the flames, but some suffered severe injuries. The article highlights the role of Canadian merchant seamen in Southeast Asia and emphasizes the service and sacrifice made by those far from home. The attack on the ship demonstrated the reach of the war and the lesser-known narratives of the conflict. [Extracted from the article]
