Abstract
The article focuses on the conscription of the Imperial Japanese Army Air Force (IJAAF) into the Royal Air Force (RAF) in Southeast Asia following the end of World War II. In the chaotic aftermath of Japan's surrender in August 1945, Major General Douglas Gracey and the 20th Indian Infantry Division were tasked with re-establishing French control in French Indo-China, where various local groups vied for power. Air Commodore Walter Cheshire formed the Gremlin Task Force, utilizing captured IJAAF aircraft and personnel to support Allied operations despite limited resources and communication challenges. The task force conducted over 2,000 sorties in a few months, providing crucial logistical support before being disbanded as the British mission in the region concluded. [Extracted from the article]
