Abstract

The article focuses on how civilians experienced the Thirty Years' War through repeated displacement, using the diary of the shoemaker Hans Heberle to illuminate everyday life amid one of Europe's most devastating conflicts. Topics include the political and religious origins of the war, the constant threat posed by roaming armies, and the strategies ordinary families used to survive violence, fear, and forced flight.
