Abstract

Asha Puthli, a Mumbai-born singer and actress, has had a remarkable career as a jazz icon. She combined Indian classical music with American jazz in the late 1960s, which was a groundbreaking concept at the time. Puthli released ten albums, 25 singles, and collaborated with renowned artists such as Duke Ellington and Lionel Hampton. She gained critical acclaim for her ethereal song "Space Talk" and has been sampled by artists like Jay-Z and 50 Cent. Puthli's big break came when she collaborated with free jazz icon Ornette Coleman on his album "Science Fiction." She continues to perform and has upcoming appearances at festivals like Glastonbury.
