Abstract
The article explores the evolution of the "hit factory" concept in pop music, tracing its origins from Tin Pan Alley to contemporary production teams. It highlights the systematic approach pioneered by Berry Gordy Jr. at Motown, which emphasized a comprehensive production model that included songwriting, performance, and marketing. Subsequent production teams, such as Stock Aitken Waterman in the UK and Max Martin in Sweden, adopted and adapted this model, creating distinctive sounds and achieving significant commercial success. The article also acknowledges the contrasting approach of Factory Records, which prioritized artistic integrity over commercial success while still producing iconic music.
