Abstract
This article focuses on a recording featuring works by César Franck and Charles-Marie Widor, prominent late 19th-century Parisian organists and composers. It highlights Franck’s symphonic poem *Les Éolides*, inspired by Leconte de Lisle’s poetry, and Widor’s orchestral piece *La Nuit Walpurgis*, originally linked to Goethe’s *Faust* but later based on Paul Bourget’s verses. A notable feature is the arrangement of Franck’s *Grande Pièce Symphonique* for organ and orchestra by Hungarian organist Zsigmondy Szathmary, which blends organ and orchestral textures to create a symphonic work rather than a concerto. The recording, performed by Christian Schmitt (organ) and the Bamberg Symphony under Faben Gabel, offers an engaging interpretation of these compositions. [Extracted from the article]
