Abstract
The article reviews two significant scholarly works: one focusing on the Roma genocide and the other on Soviet cinema during the late Stalinist period. The first work, while providing essential historical insights, suffers from translation issues that hinder its readability. The second work, "Stalin’s Final Films," by Claire Knight, challenges the notion of postwar Soviet cinema as merely propagandistic, arguing instead for its complexity and the active role of audiences in interpreting films. Knight's analysis highlights the ideological negotiations within Soviet cinema, emphasizing the interplay between state directives and popular reception, thus contributing to a nuanced understanding of Soviet cultural history.
