Abstract

The article focuses on Colombian singer Lido Pimienta’s latest album, *La Belleza*, which challenges conventional genre categorization by blending maximalist orchestral music with Afro-Latin influences. Inspired by her experience composing for the New York City Ballet and the 1970 Czech film *Valerie and Her Week of Wonders*, Pimienta uses the album to explore themes of Caribbean identity, postcolonial beauty standards, and the concept of the sublime from a female perspective. The work marks a shift in her artistic approach, incorporating her voice throughout and treating orchestral sections as electronic sounds, reflecting her oral musical background.
