Abstract

This article focuses on the creation and enduring significance of "The Chain," the only Fleetwood Mac song credited to all five members of the band's 1977 lineup. Originating from disparate musical fragments during the recording of the Rumours album, the track was collectively assembled through a collaborative process involving contributions from Christine McVie, Lindsey Buckingham, Stevie Nicks, John McVie, and Mick Fleetwood. Despite initial internal tensions, "The Chain" became emblematic of the band's resilience and has gained cultural prominence through its use in media such as BBC's Formula 1 coverage and the film Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. The song's legacy continues with covers like Evanescence's 2019 version, highlighting themes of unity and endurance.
