Abstract

The article focuses on Cerys Hafana and her use of the triple harp, a distinctive instrument with three rows of strings—two outer rows of natural notes and a middle row of sharps and flats—unique to Welsh tradition. Hafana, who learned the instrument from one of the few remaining teachers in Wales, integrates historical Welsh folk tunes and 18th-century hymns with original compositions on her album *Edyf*, blending tradition with personal and emotional expression. Her research into archival Welsh music informed her repertoire, which includes rare and thematically relevant songs. Hafana's innovative playing techniques, such as altering the harp's sound with paper on the strings, contribute to the album's unique sonic character.
