In March 1988, The Joshua Tree by U2 wins Album of the Year at the 30th Annual Grammy Awards, while Morrissey releases his first solo album, Viva Hate, following The Smiths' breakup. Michael Jackson purchases the 2,800-acre Sycamore Valley Ranch in California for $18 million, renaming it Neverland.
