Abstract
A recent study conducted at the University of South Carolina examined the mental health experiences of gender-diverse collegiate marching band artists. The study found that these individuals face higher risks of anxiety and depression as they navigate the demands and stressors associated with marching band, college, and their gender identity. The researchers surveyed 78 gender-diverse individuals and found that 78.2% of them were considered at risk for anxiety and depression. Additionally, 18% of those at risk did not seek help from a mental health professional, with lack of time being cited as the primary barrier. The study highlights the need for specialized resources for gender-diverse individuals participating in marching band. [Extracted from the article]
