Abstract

The article reviews *Reggaetón: Una Revolución Latina* (2022) by Pablito Wilson, which provides a comprehensive history and cultural analysis of reggaeton music from its underground origins in Puerto Rico and Panamá to its global commercial success. The book explores reggaeton's hybrid musical influences, including dembow, dancehall, and trap, and highlights the genre's evolving social context, particularly its initial grassroots production and later mainstream commercialization. Wilson addresses controversies around reggaeton's perceived misogyny, dedicating significant attention to the role of women artists and the genre's efforts to broaden its audience. The text also emphasizes the collaborative nature of reggaeton artists, illustrating this with examples from Spain's vibrant Latin music scene, where artists blend reggaeton with pop, dancehall, and trap, fostering a transnational musical exchange.
