Abstract

The article focuses on the significant impact of black-owned boutique record labels on the music industry and the challenges they currently face. Historically, labels like Motown, Death Row Records, and Top Dawg Entertainment have not only shaped musical genres but also provided essential support and development for black artists. However, the consolidation of the music industry has led to a dramatic decline in black ownership, reducing opportunities for cultural representation and artist development. Despite these challenges, advancements in technology and innovative business models offer hope for the future of black-owned labels, emphasizing the need for community support and strategic partnerships to preserve their legacy and ensure their continued success in the evolving music landscape.
