Abstract

The article analyzes the musical allusion in the English epic poem "The Faerie Queen" by Edmund Spenser. Topics include the discovery that the first line of the poem alludes to pricksong and plainsong, the unlikeliness that it was inspired by Spenser, Spenser's interest in theology and knowledge about music, and why the link between plain and pricksong in the poem can not be accidental.
