Abstract
The article focuses on British rhythm and blues and soul singer James Hunter and his 2023 album *Off The Fence*. It highlights Hunter’s songwriting process, his collaboration with longtime friend Van Morrison, and the album’s production by Gabe Roth of Daptone Records and mixing by Dan Auerbach’s Easy Eye Sound. Hunter’s distinctive sound features baritone and tenor saxophones arranged to create a rich, full-bodied effect reminiscent of New Orleans and Duke Ellington small groups. The piece also touches on Hunter’s musical influences, including John Lee Hooker, and his ongoing development as a songwriter after four decades in the industry. [Extracted from the article]
