REGULARSDefining Moments23 January 1986Having been established in 1983, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inducted its first artists three years later. Among the first inductees were Jerry Lee Lewis, Chuck Berry and Ray Charles (pictured left to right at the ceremony) as well as Elvis Presley, Sam Cooke, Little Richard and Buddy Holly. The ceremony, the first of many, was held at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City. Since 1986, over 1,000 musicians and groups have been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
