Abstract
The article focuses on six global projects that use music as a tool to empower marginalized communities, foster social change, and preserve cultural identities. Dialled In, a UK-based organization, platforms South Asian creative talent to build sustainable career pathways and cross-border cultural connections. Slum Party in Lagos employs dance and music to unite communities affected by gang violence, promoting safety and social cohesion. Circuito Amazônico de Festivais in Brazil connects Amazonian communities through music festivals to preserve Indigenous knowledge and address environmental issues. Beyond Skin in Belfast uses music to bridge cultural divides and support exiled musicians, including those at risk under Taliban rule. Queer Folk researches and revives queer histories within folk music to challenge erasure and promote inclusivity. Musika Na Kipaji, an all-female festival in the Democratic Republic of Congo, highlights women's artistic talents while confronting gender-based violence and social stigma. Each initiative demonstrates music's role in community building, activism, and cultural preservation.
