Abstract

The article reviews several historical works focused on American history and culture. It highlights diaries and reports of a Civil War topographical engineer who documented military campaigns, local populations, and environmental devastation in Missouri and Arkansas. Another work examines Si Siman's pivotal role in developing Springfield, Missouri, as a national center for country music through radio and television, notably ABC-TV's Ozark Jubilee, challenging Nashville-centric narratives. A third book offers a detailed new history of the 1673 Jolliet-Marquette expedition, situating it within Indigenous contexts and French colonial ambitions, and enriching Marquette's brief journal with archaeological and ethnohistorical research. These works provide valuable insights into military history, cultural development, and early North American exploration.
